What is it for?

Since the Tremayne Hall has reopened, we have been busy setting up the Archive Centre that formed an important component of our grant applications. The idea arose out of the production of the Book of Mylor, when we accumulated an enormous amount of material about the locality and its inhabitants. It occurred to us that there must be a huge quantity of interesting material that we could all share about our lovely village and its people and which should be organised and preserved for the benefit of future generations.

What does it consist of?

There are two main areas of activity: -

  1. The Office (located upstairs above the kitchen) where the material is organised and stored.
  2. The Reading Room (located on the ground floor in what used to be the entrance lobby - now accessed via the main hall) which is the public area, where visitors may use the computer and growing library of books, as well as bringing in or viewing archive material. There are also displays in the room which will be changed from time to time and various items of local interest for sale.

When is it open?

At the moment, we are open every Thursday from 2 till 4.30 pm.

If you have any old photographs of the locality or of Mylor people, old letters or newspaper cuttings, articles or any other artifact that you think might be of interest, we would love to hear from you. You can bring objects to the Reading Room on Thursday afternoons, or Email to archive@tremaynehall.org

Can I help?

We welcome any volunteers who wish to help with the Archive Centre. You can join the Mylor Local History Group (who organise and operate the centre) by calling in on a Thursday afternoon or by contacting us as shown in the paragraph above.

Don't worry about lack of expertise or time - we will find some way in which you can join in, whatever your particular skills or interests and however little time you have to offer. Read more on Mylor Local History Group.
