Mylor Movies - War Horse (12A) Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Jeremy Irvine, Emma Watson, David Thewlis. Nominated for six Oscars. A wonderful and very moving interpretation of the Morpurgo children's book. The audience was a bit disappointing but those that did go thoroughly enjoyed it. |

Mylor Movies - The Help (12A) Directed by Tate Taylor and starring Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Allison Janney, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain. Based on the novel by Kathryn Stockett, the film was nominated for four Oscars and won one for best supporting actress. A wonderful film that a good sized audience clearly enjoyed. Those who had read the book (including the book group) found it an excellent film version of the written word. |

Mylor Movies - The Iron Lady (12A) Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and starring Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent and Richard E Grant. Tells the story of how Margaret Thatcher smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and insightful portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman. A very good audience included some who have not attended before. An encouraging sign. |

Mylor Movies - My week with Marilyn (12A) Directed by Simon Curtis and starring Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh. Colin Clark, a young film student, has inveigled his way onto the film set and documents the tense interaction between Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl. Colin becomes intrigued when Marilyn invites him into her inner world where she struggles with her fame, her beauty and her desire to be a great actress. |

The Webb Sisters - Concert by dynamic performers and multi-instrumentalists who sang with Leonard Cohen on his recent world tour. He described them as "the sublime Webb Sisters" and they certainly lived up to their reputation as one of the leading folk singers of our time. With a style all their own and using a harp, a 100-year old mandolin and a guitar, they are sometimes reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel. Their singing is at once wistful and strong and their voices harmonise to perfection. A packed audience enjoyed a really wonderful concert. |
